Completing your ESTA Application
National Identity Numbers: If the ESTA application does not accept your national identification number, or if you do not have one, please enter UNKNOWN. This will allow you to complete and submit your application.
U.S. Contact Information: "Point of contact" denotes the place or person with whom you will be staying. If you are traveling to the United States and are staying with a family member, relative, or friend, please complete the required fields with his/her information. If you intend to stay at a hotel or place of business, please provide the address, telephone number, and e-mail address (if applicable) of the location as required. If you are taking a cruise, you may use the contact information for the cruise line.
If you are completing ESTA ahead of time, and do not yet have or know your travel plans, please wait to complete an application until you obtain the required information. You do not need to submit a new application if the point of contact changes. However, you should have the updated information readily available during travel as it may be requested by a CBP Officer upon your arrival at the U.S. port of entry.
ESTA Eligibility Questions
The Traveler Communications Center cannot provide any advice on specific eligibility questions or admissibility issues. You must carefully review this question and respond according to your situation.
Payment Issues
While payment issues are rare on the ESTA website, they can result from a few known causes. First, please follow the guidelines below to see if the issue may be the result of an error on your side.
1) Do not use the auto-fill option on your web browser
2) Do not 'cut and paste' to enter information.
3) Try switching to a different browser, if possible.
If you continue to experience issues submitting payment, please wait several hours and try again. The system may be experiencing a temporary outage due to routine maintenance, updates, or other technical concerns.
If you are still unable to submit payment for your ESTA after following the suggestions above, please reply to this message with your name, date of birth, and passport number, and we will do our best to assist you.
Checking your ESTA Status
To check the status of an individual or group application, print your ESTA status, verify expiration, update your application, update travel details, make a payment, or receive a payment receipt, please follow the steps below.
Individual Application: Go to the ESTA homepage (https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/) and select "Check ESTA Status ", and then click "Check Individual Status". You will need to enter either your Passport Number, Date of Birth, and Application Number OR the Country of Citizenship, Passport Issuance Date and Passport Expiration Date.
Group Application: Go to the ESTA homepage (https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/), select "Check ESTA Status", and then click "Check Group Status". You will need to enter Group ID, Family Name, First (Given) Name, Email Address, and Date of Birth for Group Point of Contact. If you do not know the Group ID, select the link "I do not know my Group ID" to retrieve your Group ID.
Details on the ESTA search Page must match exactly what appears in the approved ESTA record. Any variation may result in an “Expired Record" or "No Application Found" message.
